After three previous events that showcased separate aspects of the brand's various product ranges, Apple held a special event that showcased their latest updates to their suite of devices. One of the biggest take aways from the event was the focus that Apple seemed to be now placing on gaming through updates to Apple TV, iPad and iPhone.
Here are some of the key takeaways from the event that caught our eye.
- A new 12.9-inch screen iPad that the company hopes will appeal to both professional creatives and committed tablet users.
- The iPad Pro, which will be available from November, which will come with a 10-hour battery life. The iPad Pro is designed for illustrators, designers and editors who need maximum precision.
- Apple will be partnering with high-end fashion house Hermes to create a new collection of Apple watch specific products. This includes hand-stitched leather straps and a special watch face.
- An update to the Apple watch operating system will be released in September. Titled WatchOS2, it will allow further integration with a number of recognised apps such as Facebook Messenger.
- Apple TV is getting an overhaul with an updated Siri voice control feature and a touch-capable remote that doubles as a gaming controller. Siri will be able to search for content via its voice control feature. It will also come with a new operating system called tvOS that now allows developers to create apps for the platform.
- Apple TV now allows for greater gaming as its remote comes equipped with a gyroscope. Users can play games across multiple platforms with gameplay transferring effortlessly between devices.
- iPhone 6 and 6s Plus integrates a new 3D Touch technology which enables new gestures, such as holding an app icon for shortcut to various actions or using a hard press to preview links. This 3D technology will allow users to detect taps, presses and longer presses with greater accuracy.
- Both iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will come with the new A9 chip – 70 percent faster at CPU tasks and 90 percent faster for graphic tasks than previous models.
- The camera now has a 12MP iSight shooter that comes with a 50 percent more pixels and faster auto-focus that will allow users to shoot 4K videos. This new camera also includes a Live Photos feature that combines a series of photos to create a GIF-like effect when you hold down an image. The software can create Live Photos by capturing pictures 1.5 seconds before and after the image, along with current sound.
These new updates will come on stream over the coming weeks for both users and developers alike.
